HAPPY BELATED NEW YEAR!

Hello and sorry we've been MIA. Hope you had a lovely holiday season full of wonder and joy. Spending the holidays with a toddler is a magical experience that I've been relishing for as long as I can. We spent December lego building, decorating cookies with reckless abandon, playing with sparkly decorations and working on a bunch of new projects for 2016.

The first few weeks of 2016 have been busy but amazing as we're back to work pulling fabrics (oh how I love getting back to the textile showrooms), meeting with clients and getting ready for another big year bursting with new ventures and happy clients.

Thank you for sharing in this great adventure with us and we wish you all the best for a very happy 2016!

This week's Super Mom post is twice the fun! Jadah Sellner and Jen Hansard first met as new moms, looking for a way to feel healthier and more energized as they navigated their increasingly busy lives. After discovering the power of the Green Smoothie and feeling the life-changing effects of clean eating, they teamed up to launch Simple Green Smoothies and the popular 30-Day Green Smoothie Challenge. These fabulous mothers and health-enthusiasts can now add the title author to their resumes: their first book, Simple Green Smoothies, just launched this month and is already a hit! Today, they're taking us behind the scenes of their happy, healthy homes and sharing their wisdom on balancing work and family.

WORK

EVERY DAY I GO TO WORK AS A  Dreamer .  I DO IT BECAUSE  I like to brainstorm with possibility and look at the big picture of the business, team and community we’re building .  MY UNIFORM/GO-TO-OUTFIT IS  cozy pajama pants when I’m working from home AND  fun dresses and boots when I’m out and about .  MY FIRST REAL JOB WAS  at a fast-food joint called Pollo Tropical   AND IT  smelled like greasy yucatan fries  .

FAMILY

MY HAPPY FAMILY CONSISTS OF  my guitar-playing husband, George, my 8-year-old daughter Zoe, and our “chiweenie” rescue dog, Clementine .  WE LIVE IN  Walnut Creek – just 25 miles east of San Francisco .  BALANCING WORK AND KIDS IS  a work in progress .  MY SECRET WEAPON IS  hugs – anytime my daughter seems angry, frustrated, or tired, I ask her if she wants a hug, and the answer is always yes !  MY BEST PARENTING ADVICE COMES FROM  the book, Love & Logic – the book encourages you to be a consultant parent and support your child in coming up with ideas and solutions first instead of always running in quickly with your answers .  AND IF I EVER WRITE A PARENTING BOOK, I'LL CALL IT  Embrace the Mess: Dance Parties Over Dirty Dishes .

LIFE AT HOME

MY SECRET HIDEOUT IN MY HOME IS  the bathroom for a nice bubble bath .  IT’S WHERE I  light candles, turn on some jazz music, grab a book, quiet my mind, and relax my body with a nice hot soak .  ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT MY HOME IS THAT IT  ’s small and cozy – I like everyone feeling close together .  MY GO-TO PAINT COLOR IS  Benjamin Moore Elephant Grey   AND FAVORITE PIECE OF FURNITURE IS  a chaise lounge to cozy up with a good book .  IF MY HOUSE HAD A NAME IT WOULD BE  The Sellner Sanctuary .

TECH

IF I HAVE A FEW SECONDS TO ROAM THE WEB, I HEAD STRAIGHT FOR  Facebook (you caught me!) .  MY FAVORITE APP IS  Bloom That – send a friend (or yourself) some flowers to brighten up the day,  AND WHEN THE KIDS WANT MY PHONE OR IPAD,  Doodle Buddy .

LIFE

MY MOTTO IS  A little P90X quote from Tony Horten, “Be your best and forget the rest” .  THE THREE THINGS I TRY TO DO EVERY SINGLE DAY ARE: 1)  morning snuggles with my daughter  2)  share 3 things we’re grateful for at the dinner table  3)  say, “I love you” to my family before going to sleep .  I DON’T KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS, BUT MY ADVICE TO OTHER WORKING MOMS IS  to have compassion for yourself, release the guilt, and look at your work as an inspiration to your children. When children see happy mamas working, you become a role model for what’s possible – raising a family and doing work you love .  AND ON DAYS THAT IT ALL SEEMS TOO MUCH:  give yourself full permission to unplug from work and take a mommy break from the family. It’s important to fill yourself up and recharge your batteries, so you’re fully present in all areas of your life .

WORK

EVERY DAY I GO TO WORK AS A  "Rawkstar," sharing my personal journey of transformation, hope and happiness with the world .  I DO IT BECAUSE  I believe we shouldn't feel alone in the world. We were meant to be doing life together — and the more honest and open we are in public, the more we can grow and transform together .  MY FIRST REAL JOB WAS  at a pizza place in high school. I was 16 years old and learned how to make amazing cheese-stuffed crust pizza. To this day, I make pizza with my kids and they agree — I am a professional pizza maker .

FAMILY

MY HAPPY FAMILY CONSISTS OF  my husband, Ryan, who captured my heart when we were both 16 (yep, I was working at that pizza shop when we started dating), our 7-year old son Jackson, our 6-year old daughter Clare, our guinea pig and our chicken .  WE LIVE IN  a small farm town in Brooksville, FL, where the cows outnumber the human population .  BALANCING WORK AND KIDS IS  a constant struggle .  MY SECRET WEAPON IS  green smoothies — which fuel me through the long exciting days !  MY BEST PARENTING ADVICE COMES FROM  a quote that always puts things in perspective for me: “The days are long, but the years are short" .  AND IF I EVER WRITE A PARENTING BOOK, I'LL CALL IT  “Food Solutions: Healing your Children from the Inside Out.” My son had constant ear infections when he was 2 years old and they keep saying it was from a cold, and they’d put him on round after round of antibiotics. He spent a whole year sick, sleepless and with constant ear pain. We took him to specialists — and even did an allergy test but it didn’t pick up anything. Yet through a special food sensitivity exercise, we were able to figure out that he was sensitive to corn. We took corn, corn syrup, corn starch and everything inbetween out of his diet immediately and within a week, my son was all better. He hasn’t been on antibiotics since — and that was 5 1/2 years ago. No joke .

SHOPPING

WHEN I SHOP FOR MY KIDS I GO TO  Children's Place or Target ,  WHEN I SHOP FOR MYSELF I HEAD STRAIGHT FOR  Target, because I can buy clothes, groceries and cleaning supplies, all while sipping on a Starbucks coffee. They got me ,  AND WHEN I WANT A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR MY HOME, I HUNT DOWN  fun old furniture   ON  Craigslist .  IF I HAD TO LIVE IN ANY STORE, IT WOULD BE  Anthropologie, oh how I love thee .

FOOD

MY POWER BREAKFAST CONSISTS OF  oatmeal with a cup of coffee that has grass fed butter and Bulletproof MCT oil blended into it .  AND I MANAGE TO GET MY KIDS TO EAT  pounds of fruits and vegetables every single day between green smoothies, fresh fruit and roasted veggies. We are a serious produce lovin’ family .  WEEKDAY MEAL STANDBYS ARE  grilled veggies, steak, chicken and rice, and scrambled eggs ,  AND ON THE WEEKEND WE EAT LOTS OF  pizza! Every Friday night is family movie night and we always have pizza and popcorn .  IF HAD TO LIVE IN ANY RESTAURANT IT WOULD BE  Fresh Kitchen in Tampa, FL. They had me at the brussel sprouts and coconut sriracha sauce .

LIFE AT HOME

MY SECRET HIDEOUT IN MY HOME IS  my backyard .  IT’S WHERE I  can breath deeper, connect with nature and not think about all the to-do’s that are inside my house .  ONE OF THE BEST THINGS ABOUT MY HOME IS THAT IT  is an older home that needs some remodeling love. So my husband and I work on it together— and we have memories throughout every room. We’ve had a midnight Taco Bell date on our bathroom floor while laying tile and the kids slept .  MY GO-TO PAINT COLOR IS  white. The artist in me loves a blank canvas   AND FAVORITE PATTERN IS A  wood-patterned porcelain tile. We just redid all of our shower and bathtub walls in this and are in love !  IF MY HOUSE HAD A NAME IT WOULD BE  The Hansard Farm .

TECH

IF I HAVE A FEW SECONDS TO ROAM THE WEB, I HEAD STRAIGHT FOR  cnn.com to see what’s going on in the world .  MY FAVORITE APP IS  Pandora - family dance parties are a part of my life,  AND WHEN THE KIDS WANT MY PHONE OR IPAD,  my camera app to take pics or videos of each other. Little videographers and photographers in the making !

Alexis Givens Interiors | Super Moms: Jen Hansard & Jadah Sellner | deardesigndiary.comi

LIFE

MY THEME SONG IS  Bon Jovi’s Living on a Prayer .  THE THREE THINGS I TRY TO DO EVERY SINGLE DAY ARE: 1)  Thank God for all the blessings in my life  2)  Let my kids know I love them through words, hugs and kisses  3)  Drink a green smoothie. .  I DON’T KNOW ALL THE ANSWERS, BUT MY ADVICE TO OTHER WORKING MOMS IS  make a list of the most important things in life. Then clear your entire schedule and make these important things the priority every day. Then work everything else around them. This is how I live an intentional life .  AND ON DAYS THAT IT ALL SEEMS TOO MUCH:  pause for 10 minutes. Use this time to figure out what is important to you and make sure those are the things that you get done that day. For the rest of the things, there is always tomorrow .
