One of our current clients loved the idea of adding texture and depth to her modern home with something other than traditional wallpaper. In many projects, wallpaper is the answer to creating a focal wall or an amazing texture, but in this space, we explored a bunch of options that we thought could create a look that was modern and clean without being too sterile. Inspired by the amazing mix of wood tones and crisp white walls found in so many Scandinavian spaces, we found 3 great companies with lots of products to create a clean wood paneled look with a modern spirit.

1) Wonderwall Studios uses exclusively reclaimed wood, salvaged from "abandoned houses, derelict sheds, rail road-sleepers, naturally fallen trees and old floors," and they employ only local craftsmen so that everything, from salvaging to marketing, is done in-house with an expert attention to detail.

2) Sacramento based brand, Stikwood, offers wood planking that is peel-and-stick, so it can be applied by anyone, quickly and easily. Stikwood comes in a variety of gorgeous colors and styles and is now being carried by a few larger retailers, including one of our favorites, West Elm.

3) Another option we love, aside from wood planks, are these interlocking, patterned panels by Modular Arts. Made of glass, gypsum cement, and volcanic rock composite, the sturdy, sculptural modules can be trimmed to fit any size wall and painted with regular interior paint.
